Support verbs (abstract) |
Y. Wilks, B. M. Slator och L.~Guthrie (1996:12) say: "take" in English rarely occurs as a verb with any of the contentful senses found under its definitions, but almost always as the vacuous auxiliary in a phrasal verb, as in "take part”, "take a break”, etc. Swedish is very similar to English in this respect, as shown by an extraction of support verb constructions from the corpus of Språkbanken (about 40 mln words). Given this freqency of use compared with that of their counterpart full verbs should not support verbs be postulated as separate lexemes? Should not dictionaries have separate entries for them? |
