Lexware home about usage demo

Approach Lexware is designed to make the best use of its language representation, not only to enhance coverage and precision of its analysis, but also to provide more flexibility in queries. The system is meant to be used on-line, hence efficiency is one of the main concerns. Lexware's efficiency resides not only in the easy access to data structures, but also in its analysis strategy. It proves to be efficient thanks to an inversion of assumptions of what should be considered as a norm and what as an exception in language analysis.

  Analysis
strategy
The analysis strategy is based on quite an obvious observation that lexical memory has always precedence over rules in normal language use. For instance, if there is a lexicalization black bird there is no need to generate its compositional reading, which is exactly what analysis systems normally do, because of the assumption that lexicon constitutes exceptions to the rules. Lexware takes the opposite view: rules of composition are treated as exceptions while lexicon is the norm. Lexware does not even generate the less preferable readings, i.e. it avoids ambiguities instead of engaging in resolving them. (full description of the algorithm in Dura, E. 1998. Parsing Words.
